My Latest Stitch Fix

Stitch Fix is such a fun styling service and recently I had a $50 credit so I decided to order myself up a fix!  I mean who needs an excuse for more clothes, am I right?  I needed a combo of cold weather and warm weather clothes and luckily my fix hit the bill!  Out of the five items they sent me, I decided to keep all but two.  Here were the keepers!

Washing your Workout Clothes With Roux Maison

I know we’ve already talked about the proper way to wash workout wear but I recently found a product that I swear by and I felt I needed to update you all!  It all started when I recently shelled out a bit of cash to purchase some really cute Kate Spade and Beyond Yoga Activewear.  The problem was that I felt like the clothes were getting a little bit eaten up by the wash.  They were so soft when I bought them but I felt like they pilled a bit when I put them through the wash.  I decided that I needed a high quality detergent made to get rid of the lovely smells of working out and the ick of the sweat without damaging the amazing fabrics or compromising the fabric technology.  Sounds impossible, right?

Well, a little bit of research led me to Roux Maison.  I immediately fell in love with their Sport Detergent.

Special Post-Fashion’s Night Out

Although I love blogging about fitness and fitness-related products/activities, I can’t neglect the “lifestyle” portion of MyOwnBalance.  I mean isn’t that the whole point, living a balanced and varied lifestyle that allows you to enjoy all different kinds of experiences!?   Well, in that case, let me tell you all about my experience at NYC’s Annual Fashion’s Night Out!

Fashion’s Night Out was started four years ago by the editors of Vogue Magazine and Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA in New York City.  The purpose of the original event was to help stimulate the sluggish retail economy by getting consumers motivated to go out and shop.  Today, the initiative has gone global with countries throughout the world participating.

Having participated in the first Fashion’s Night Out, I can only tell you that it gets bigger and better (and more crowded) every year!  Many retailers offer in-store specials including exclusive FNO merchandise or collections, discounts and goody bags.  Not to mention the party-like atmosphere with many stores hiring DJs, offering free cocktails and appetizers, and celebrity appearances.

This year I hit up the town armed with some of my most fashionable girlfriends!  We started off at DVF where we were treated to delicious cocktails and decadent sweets.  Not to mention the beautiful clothes.  I’ve never bought a DVF wrap dress but it is definitely on my splurge must have list.

We then headed off to Paul Smith where my good friend Rae works!  This was by far the best VIP treatment we got all night 🙂  Paul Smith has some beautiful clothes if you work in a professional setting (like, for example, a lawyer who has to go to court!).

We then headed off to Kate Spade where I made my first (and only) purchase of the night!  A new iPhone cover (I love my old iPhone cover which is also Kate Spade but soooooo many people have it and there really is something to be said for being an original 😉 ) and two pairs of tights-bright blue and bright pink!  Hey I love color!

We hit up a few more stores like Zimmerman, Jill Stuart, a shoe place that I cannot remember the name but had very cool art installations and just generally wandered the streets of SoHo!  The crowds were unbelievable but it seemed as though everyone was having a grand ole time! There were food trucks abound (we ended up eating at a local restaurant however) as well as a Jack Willis pop up truck throwing out free pairs of knickers into the crowd (yes I got a pair of lime green and blue large knickers-hey, they were free!).

Even though I didn’t end up buying a whole lot, overall it was a fun successful night!  For more photos, see my live tweets!
