By far the piece de resistance of any wedding is the wedding dress. The entire theme of the wedding revolves around the dress. Buying my wedding dress was the second thing I decided on after choosing a venue. I started browsing wedding magazines pretty much the day I got engaged so I began to get a pretty good idea of the type of dress that I liked. I generally wanted a strapless, sweatheart neck dress, drop waist and either mermaid or trumpet style. And, I guess the cat’s outta the bag… that’s exactly what I got!
My mom and I went shopping and chose my dress all in one Saturday. We started off the day at Vera Wang on Madison Ave, then hit up J. Crew Bridal before turning to the larger bridal stores of Bridal Reflections and the home of “Say Yes to the Dress”, Kleinfelds. Of course we stopped in between serious dress shopping to have tea at the Plaza.
I ultimately ended up trying on my dress first at Bridal Reflections and then again at Kleinfelds. I purchased the dress at Kleinfelds and had that quintessential “I’m saying Yes to the Dress!” moment- although there were no tears, it was more like give me the dress so I can go home because my stomach hurts from being squeezed into corsets all day! Sheesh! But it was seriously an awesome day!
As easy as it was to pick my wedding dress, it was so much harder to pick out suits for the groom and groomsmen and the bridesmaids! I actually ended up ordering the bridesmaids dresses online. Thankfully they worked out perfectly! The groomsmen were a huge challenge because the hubs and I got married in Maui so we wanted light colored summer suits. Unfortunately finding light colored summer suits during the winter in NYC is nearly impossible!! The Mad Men collection for Banana Republic saved our lives at the last minute (literally we bought the suits in March and the wedding was April 9th!).
