First of all, I want to thank everyone for the lovely comments, tweets, emails and general love sent to me regarding Tuesday’s post! I was kind of nervous and excited to make the announcement. It’s such a huge change, which inevitably brings up fear along with anticipation. You guys gave me the warm and fuzzies all day and made me feel so lucky to have this little blog.
But let’s talk about food, shall we? Who doesn’t love food? The other night I was lucky enough to be invited to a dining and dancing event with Alpine Lace Deli Cheese and Kristi Yamaguchi! You guys, I am such a fan!! Obviously she is an amazing figure skater but I loved her on Dancing with the Stars. She is my favorite contestant ever! Plus, even though I live in probably the biggest celebrity spotting city outside of LA, I never ever ever see celebs. Ever.
I had an absolute ball at this event. Kristi is so amazing. She is poised and a great speaker. Plus, she is a do-it-all woman with her Olympic medals, two children’s books, a new active wear line and more. She spoke about a topic near and dear to my heart: finding balance. The million dollar question is how do we do it all and find balance? As Kristi eloquently put it, you can’t. You can only do what you can and you need to cut out stuff that isn’t important to you. Take time to focus on what makes you happy, even if it is for only 30 minutes a day. Great message, right?
The evening was split into three stations:
- Wine and cheese pairing.
- Learn the rumba!
- Meet Kristi and pick three things that make you happy or are important to you.
I started at the pairing station and let me tell you, this was maybe my favorite station. Ok I liked them all, but check out this spread!
I want every cheese plate from now on to look like this! Seriously though, the good folks at Alpine Lace set up some amazing assortments to allow us to create our own pairings. Alpine Lace cheese is actually up to 45% reduced fat and made with skim milk (which is amazing if you eat a lot of cheese like me!). I don’t know about you, but I often get stuck in a crackers and cheese rut. This pairing station encouraged us to make combinations with sliced Italian meats, baba ganoush (love!), sliced apples, dried chickpeas and chocolate.
I think my favorite combo was cheese with strawberries, quince paste and balsamic vinegar. Just the right amount of sweet to balance against the saltiness of cheese and crackers. Sadly, I could not partake in the wine pairings but they had an incredibly fun selection!
After stuffing my face noshing, we moved on to the rumba station. Oh goodie! A chance to burn off some calories. Ok this was so.much.fun! We had two professional dance instructors and I was thrilled to learn the rumba. I have taken some salsa lessons before and some dance lessons before our wedding, but I’ve always wanted to learn the rumba. It was so fun and we even learned some basic turns. The instructors were so friendly and encouraging.
Last, but not least, I got a chance to meet Kristi and pick out the top three things that make me happy and add up to 100% nutrition in my life. I choose: dancing, my husband and the beach. Kristi was so friendly and really down to earth.
Overall it was such a great night and I want to thank Alpine Lace so much for inviting me! They were simply amazing and I’m stoked to try out their reduced fat cheeses!
