Hello friends! Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving! For this Friday’s Food and Fitness I cannot wait to tell you about the fitness biathlon I participated in last Saturday with Well and Good NYC and Athleta! Oh my gosh, it was amazing. I was waiting for the official photos to come through and it was killing me not sharing it with you immediately! Although, if you follow me on Instagram, you got a little preview! 😉
The biathlon was this incredibly awesome event hosted by Well and Good NYC in honor of Athleta’s new store in Flatiron that opened just last week. Flatiron has really taken off recently with tons of fitness studios in the area plus more to open soon. I actually used to live on the Chelsea/Flatiron border before moving to the UES, now I wish I still lived there! Lol. (I actually do love the Upper East.)
We were divided into two teams: Team Cardio and Team Tone. Team Cardio headed to Barry’s Bootcamp and Flywheel (my fav!) for an intense cardio session, while Team Tone started at Flybarre (another fav!) and then headed to Yogamaya. I elected to join Team Tone (I die after just a Flywheel class so there was no way to I was doubling up here!).
Although this was not a competitive event, the hosts did an awesome job making it feel like we were involved in some big race or fitness palooza. We even got race bibs when we checked in at Athleta’s new store, which for the record is gorgeous!
Now, if you live in NYC and are remotely interested in staying fit, you know that Well and Good is your premiere destination for what’s hot on the fitness scene. Well, this site was started by two women entrepreneurs (yay women!) and I had never met them until this day. This ladies are for real. They even walked us to our classes. I mean, c’omn, does Zuckerberg do that?!
Team Tone’s first class of the day was Flybarre with Shay. Ok, I know I talk about Physique 57 a lot but as far as barre classes go, Flybarre is top notch! You can read more about my review on Flybarre here and here. Let’s just say in 45 minutes my legs were shaking, my arms were dying and I was smiling because I was having so much fun!
After soaking up the energy in Flybarre, Team Tone headed to our second class at Yogamaya. This vinyasa class taught by Bryn was just what my muscles needed. I really need to stretch more and nothing taps into the mind/body connection like yoga. The class was so much fun and I wanted to stay forever. Bryn helped me stretch deeply in pigeon. Just typing that hurt but in a good way! Yogamaya’s studio is beautiful with this amazing skylight in the yoga room. How much would you love to lay on a yoga mat and look up at the sky?
From what I heard from Team Cardio, Barry’s Bootcamp was intense (I’ve never tried it but would be willing to give it a shot) with cardio and strength moves combined. Flywheel is my favorite cycle studio in all of Manhattan so I know the ladies got an awesome workout!
We all reconvenied at Athleta’s store for a little after party including some food from Mulberry & Vine and drinks from Tumeric. Plus, we got free massages from Zeel! Oh my gosh, that was the best part! There were some makeovers going on but I didn’t have time to check them out. We did get these amazing goodie bags that included some sample products and I actually love the stuff we got! A few lucky ladies won the giveaways and got free capris from Athleta and one lucky lady got a $500 shopping spree! I, on the other hand, spent a boat load of cash but it was on Xmas gifts so I felt it was justified!
The biathlon was one of the best fitness events I have been to in awhile and word on the street is that they are planning more in the future! Yippee!
Readers, have you ever participated in a fitness biathlon or anything similar? Do you like to see the sky when you do yoga? Which team would you join: Team Cardio or Team Tone?
