National Yoga Month

Hey! Did you guys know that September is National Yoga Month!? I love yoga and I think it’s a great idea to spend a month celebrating such an important mind/body exercise.  The Department of Health and Human Services actually designated September as National Yoga Month in an effort to educate people about the health benefits of yoga and inspire a healthy lifestyle.  A message I can completely get behind!  For more information on National Yoga Month, you can visit the Yoga Health Foundation.

You all know I’ve professed my love for the brand Athleta with everything they’ve been up to lately including Yoga in Times Square, Yoga in Bryant Park and my awesome giveaway during Blogiversary Week!  Well, they’re at it again with National Yoga Month and they’ve got some great ways to celebrate.


Free Online Yoga Classes 

Athleta has teamed up with YogaGlo (which I still have not yet tried, so looking forward to this!), to offer three free online classes this month.  They are offering a 20 minute Wake Up and Go vinyasa style class, a 30 minute Unwind at the End of Your Day Hatha class and a 45 minute Yoga for Athletes Vinyasa class.  You can click here to view these classes.

Free Yoga In-Stores

Athleta is celebrating National Yoga Month nationwide with free in-store yoga events.  You can click here to find a store and see what events are occurring in your area.  In NYC, I’m looking forward to Sunday Salutations with Pure Yoga, more Bryant Park yoga and a restorative class!

  2. Any of the free yoga events in NYC! Boy do I miss those! I was wayyyy too cheap to pay for a membership and the yoga at the Y just wasn’t great so I stalked the city for any free classes. You could often find me at Yoga to the People 🙂

  3. I love yoga! I haven’t been doing too much of it lately, but I’d like to check out those free online classes! You look awesome doing the headstand and crow pose!! Those are two poses I have never been able to master.

  5. Wow are you doing a handstand?! That’s awesome! I love yoga and need to incorporate it more in my life. This might be my tipping point! I did yoga once outdoors in high school and can always relate that to my favorite yoga experience. I wish SF had more outdoor yoga sessions!

    • Thanks Allie! Yeah the McDonald’s sign was kinda weird but I guess that’s what you get when you are in the middle of Times Square! 🙂 Have fun at your local Athleta store! They have some amazing classes!

  8. You’ve got some cool yoga photos there lady! I don’t practice but I so need some flexibility routines. I appreciate the info on the free stuff. Maybe that is the inspiration I need to get moving.

    • Thanks Joi! I think starting out small with 10-20 minute increments is the way to go! It can dramatically increase your flexibility if you stick with it!
